XFL Week 1 Recap

Hi Guys,

DP PICKS - RECAP: Reviewing how the picks did in Week 1 of the XFL DFS season.

Quarterbacks

PJ Walker was the slam dunk play of the slate. Priced at probably his lowest point of the year, Walker delivered with 32.48 points. Most impressively, he did most of his damage through the air (4 TDs and 272 yards). There is still a lot he can give us with his legs (26 yards), so we will have to see where he is priced for next week.

Both Landry Jones and Josh Johnson failed to see the field due to injury. We warned you about rostering Phillip Nelson and he played as I anticipated. Mr. Checkdown completed 15 of his 33 successful passes to running backs, that only left 18 completions to spread around to his WRs. Nelson's longest pass play was only 21 yards. On the flip side, we did say the better pivot was Ta'amu and he performed well (20 DK points).

Running Backs

Elijah Hood (4.3 DK points) got the bulk of the carries for LA, but did little with them. Trey Williams (14.3 DK points) performed to our exceptions and was a good low priced back. He had 5 targets that turned into 4 Receptions for 27 yards and a TD. His lack of carries (3) was concerning. Jhurell Pressley (6.9 DK points) had the bulk of the carries for DC but only mustered 31 rushing yards. We missed on running backs outside of Williams, but in my opinion this was the toughest position to scale out in Week 1, due to O-Line question marks and unknown play-calling styles.

Wide Receivers

Rashad Ross (13.1 DK Points) lived up to the hype for DC. Both of his receptions were for 20+ yards, he is a home run threat whenever he is on the field. Eli Rogers (13.3 DK Points) was definitely in play for DC, he led the team with 6 receptions. Sammie Coates was overall a disappointment from a DK perspective (4.6 DK Points). Cam Phillips (16.7) was received the most attention from QB PJ Walker and recorded 4 catches on 9 targets for 67 yards and a TD. The Dallas wideouts underperformed, but I put a lot of that on Nelson's inability to drive the ball down the field. We will see what Landry Jones does for this group in Week 2. Flynn Nagel (10.3 DK Points) was a solid play catching all 6 targets for 43 yards. I would expect this to be his baseline going forward. Both Freddie Martino (3.15 DK Points) and Jeff Badet (3.6) failed to provide any production.

Defense

We dominated on defense and it is the reason we cashed on a majority of our lineups. The NY Guardians (24 DK Points) harassed Aaron Murray (7.24 DK Points) all day. Sacking the Georgia product 3 times and intercepting him twice. The defensive TD was a nice cherry on the top of a solid defensive performance. The strategy of playing against a QB paid off for us with the DC defense as well. The Defenders (22 DK Points) forced Brandon Silvers (18.78 DK points) into 2 interceptions, one of which was returned for a pick 6 and sacked him once. DC also blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone.

We did miss on Tampa's defense, Matt McGloin (26.22 DK points showed why he is considered one of the top QBs in the league, when he limits turnovers. The Vipers (1 DK Point) were a dart throw at the minimum price.

Hope everyone had enough Walker, Ross and DC/NY Defense to have a successful weekend! See you on Friday.
